Summit 130 Clear-water Barley Straw Bales are a product of our modern farming techniques. You can use them in many environments and they will yield high-quality, nutrient rich straw. This 2-pack contains 2 bales which weight 100 pounds, measure 4x4x8 inches, and have an absorbent capacity of 13 gallons per bale.
Clear-water straw bales measure 4x4x8 inches, weigh 100 pounds and have an absorbent capacity of 13 gallons per bale. The straw will be mowed in early fall and will break down in 2 to 3 months. The bales are brown and dry, which can be a bit hard to work with,
but will make excellent bedding for animals and structures. You can use nearly any tool to cut the bales down into smaller components or chop them into any size pieces you desire. The dry and brown appearance of the bales will go well with any type of decorations that you may want to add to your garden.
Due to the nature of this product, it may be harmful if ingested. Anyone working with this product should take precautions and use appropriate gear. This material can be collected from yard waste or from production farms. If you do not have access to bales of straw through these outlets, be sure to ask for permission before collecting the bales yourself.

My 5′ x 3′ x 2′ garden pond wouldn’t stay clear even though I had drained the water, cleaned out all the muck from the bottom, and refilled it. I put a single barley straw bale into the pond, and voila! in a couple of weeks, my pond water became crystal clear and has stayed that way all summer even though the pond gets sun most of the day. Great product!

I was glad that I already had a netted, floating bag because the straw bales would disperse all over the pond if I didn’t have something to put it in. They do seem to be helping to reduce the amount of algae growing in the pond.

Within a few weeks of buying our new pond, we started getting algae. The store gave us drops, but they didn’t work. Plus, if you put too many drops, it gets the birds, who use our pond, sick. So, we tried this, and it worked! It took a little more than 2 weeks before we saw improvement. It actually looked worse at first, but now, it is crystal clear. I’m so glad I kept it in the water, because the difference is incredible. No more algae and based on what I’ve read, it is safe for the birds too! Yippee!!!

We have a 1500 gallon koi pond and fight algae every year. Though this doesn’t clear it completely, it’s made a big difference. We use one attached to string placed under the waterfall. When it begins to sink we remove it, allow to dry and replace with the other. Just switch as needed.

After the electric company cut down 90% of the shade covering the pond we’ve had a major algae issue. I did my research and decided why not, the price won’t kill me. Purchased the 1000 US gallon pack and plopped them in the ever so disgusting pond. I haven’t been able to see my fish in a month or so and adding chemicals was worrying me about the fishes health. Within a couple days I seen a difference and now it’s been 2 weeks and as seen in photo 2 it’s crystal clear. I stopped adding harmful chemicals and did my bi-daily filter cleaning of my pressurized biological pond filter and now I couldn’t be happier. Highly recommend this item.

It doesn’t work overnight. In 3 weeks all pond scum loosened up and removed from pond by the skimmer. Works great especially if you follow directions. I replaced mine every 2 months as my pond is in full sun all day long.
