From the manufacturer
Before using
Make certain that the pond has vigorous aeration, i.e. a fountain or aeration device to avoid fish loss due to low oxygen levels. When algae is controlled and removed by the filter or settles to the bottom of the pond, the oxygen level may drop to harmful levels if adequate aeration is not provided. In warm weather, pond water carries much less oxygen.
- Will not harm fish, plants, surrounding wildlife and pets when used as directed
- Do not use with freshwater crustaceans, including shrimp, crabs, and lobsters
API POND ALGAEFIX Algae Control
Why use API POND ALGAEFIX Algae Control?
Algae growth can appear as “green water” blooms, “pea-green soup”, filamentous algae on plants, or floating mats (blanket weed). Algae grows when there is an excessive amount of nutrients in the water, usually in spring prior to plant growth, and in the summer in direct sun.
API POND ALGAEFIX Algae Control works fast to control algae growth and keep ponds, water gardens and fountains clean and clear.

How to use API POND ALGAFIX Algae Control (Read and follow all label directions before use)
Step 1
Vigorous, 24-hour aeration is required for the duration of the treatment. Do not shut off pond pumps and aeration devices at night.
Step 2
Remove as much algae as possible by hand prior to treating pond.
Step 3
DO NOT OVERDOSE. Thoroughly mix into pond water and disperse evenly around the pond. Add 1 teaspoon (5 ml) for each 50 U.S. gallons.
Step 4
As algae dies, remove as much of the dying algae as possible. Once algae growth is under control, add one dose per week to control algae growth.
CALCULATE THE VOLUME OF YOUR POND BEFORE USING
To ensure accurate dosing, determine pond volume before use. You can use the following:
- • For Square and Rectangular Ponds: Avg. length (feet) x Avg. width (feet) x Avg Depth (feet) = cubic feet of water. Cubic feet of water x 7.5 = number of gallons
- Example: A pond with a length of 8 feet, width of 6 feet and an average depth of 2 feet has approx. 720 U.S. Gallons.
- • For Round Ponds: Top Diameter x Bottom Diameter x Height x 0.785 x 7.5
- Example: 3’TD x 3’ BD x 2′ H x 0.785 x 7.5 = 106 U.S. Gallons.
How to dose API POND ALGAEFIX Algae Control
Do not overdose!
Add 1 teaspoon (5ml) for each 50 U.S. gallons (190 L) or a ¼ cup (60 ml) for each 600 gallons (2,275 L). We calculated some possible dosing examples for you in the aside chart.
- Repeat dose every 3 days until algae is controlled
- Once algae growth is under control, add one dose per week. Weekly doses will control algae growth.

This has been the best I have ever tried. I always get green string algae every year, since I have started using this product, I have had NO algae this year. Will definitely buy again!

I tried and take my risk of 10 dollar. My goldfish pond is outside, and have so much sunshine. The algae is super green. I can’t see the fish at all. And the water was like green painting. Whenever I pour it, it turns green.First time. I pour little bit, not working, then I put more, the gold fish begin breathing so hard on surface. Then I know, it works! After couple days, the algae turns to Greyish green, and I can see it is floating.Just like it say, it doesn’t hurt the fish, but need full aeroation during the process. And should try little by little determined by ur pond size.Last but least important, after treatment, the dead algae still in water, so I use filter to screen it, now I can see the bottom, and fish begin chasing each other.

I had bad string algae in a 300 gal pond. Variety of plants. Started with this liquid AS DIRECTED (because I wanted pets and birds to be able to drink from it while in treatment). Resist the urge to “double up” on the dose. At first it seems hopeless, but be patient and after 2 or 3 months you’ll see a big difference. I think (don’t know for a fact, but think) it has an impact on the growth and development of the tadpoles that invariably are present after a frog-a-thon. Doesn’t kill ’em all off, but they are lethargic and don’t develop.

Experienced water gardener here with 6000 gallon koi pond, but always learning something new. A few years back I had a green water problem and used API Pond Algaefix, at the time the most highly recommended by on-line purchasers. It worked immediately and remedied my water clarity problem.Fast forward to this summer and, for the first time in years, I had a green water problem again. I tried using Algaefix again, but with no success whatsoever this time. Thanks to Amazon’s previous order search capability, I found that my previous purchase of this product was in 2016. Duh! Acting on a hunch, I bought a fresh bottle and — bingo — my green water cleared up overnight. Bottom line: this is a great product and works very well when used exactly as advertised, but be advised that it apparently has a limited shelf life and loses its efficacy once it has been opened. This is not mentioned anywhere in the product literature, nor have I found this necessary information anywhere on-line. Live and learn.

Thought it would take 2 or 3 times of use before seeing a difference. But after one use we saw a huge difference! Definitely will keep using and buy again.

This stuff is fantastic. Our pond was so green and we were thinking of spending the money and getting another UV bulb which keeps burning out but we thought we’d try this first and it worked great. Have had NO problems with green water since using and we’ve been having a heat wave and no problems. Try it, you’ll love it.. Just follow directions because I heard you have to know how much water you have in the pond so you know how much to use.

This product really works! I have no algae in my 1800 gallon pond, no matter how hot it gets. The trick is to start it early in the season. If you wait to use it until the algae has started, it will be more difficult to control.

This works terrific in our Koi pond. It won’t hurt your fish but it also won’t hurt your pond plants either. e.g. Lilly Pads etc.

Clears up the water within hours. Just what I needed

AlgeaFix is an excellent product, unlike a lot of pond chemicals it actually works. This was by far the best price I have ever found
