Description

I am glad to know that at a very affordable cost, I can purchase this Carson LinenTest 5x30mm Folding Loupe Magnifier. This device is an amazing tool for anyone to use and is a great aid when inspecting fabrics. It has a clear magnification of 2.5x and 5x with an adjustable focus from 10cm to 100cm (3.84 in. – 39.37 in.).

In my own personal opinion, this magnifier is the perfect item for any textile enthusiast or professional who needs high-quality magnification when inspecting their work or fabrics on hand. The Carson LinenTest 5x30mm Folding Loupe Magnifier is made from high-quality material and is also durable, which is something that I love about it as well.

This folding loupe magnifier makes it easy for me to make sure that I inspect my cloth to make sure that the fabric texture is free from defects and thread breaks. This device has a 5x magnification capacity which makes it easier for me to examine the cloth with ease. This loupe comes in a pouch so I can place this magnifier in my bag and bring it anywhere with me.

I actually bought this to help focus my 4×5 camera, as I’m entirely too cheap to buy a proper focusing loupe. I think I might prefer it at a bit closer to 4x for this purpose, but that’s my problem, not the magnifier’s. It’s a pretty neat design, it folds up into a little neat square, which makes accidental breakage between uses less likely.

I have this little item with me at all times. Bi-focal lens, and reading glasses are awesome, but this little device is outstanding and will probably be ordering more as it is plastic. Rugged plastic, but still plastic! Great Item!

  3. iLLuMNaTi

This is the perfect sized “Linen Test” Magnifier in my opinion and is a near perfect design. If this was made out of metal instead of plastic it would probably be the ultimate loupe for it’s function. This is ideal for examining coins, bills, signatures, postage stamps, small serial numbers, electronic components, and fine print just to name a few. The graduation scale is in both millimeters and in inches and both are very crispy in detail. One con …. no case to keep it in, you are on your own to protectively store it. That’s an easy fix and for the price you cannot beat this little gizmo.

I still have my original one from 1986, but its a bit scratched up and showing its age. searched around on Amazon and found this brand new one right here!We print using a Roland 8-color vinyl printer (VG2-540) and check dot structure and color banding using these linen testers, they are indispensable for really seeing what’s going on when there’s an issue with banding. Some have complained that you have to pick it up off the item being inspected to get it to focus, let me tell you that this is true, even for my original one from ’86! I guess we’re all used to just picking it up off the vinyl about a quarter inch or so to get it sharp and clear, its really not that big of an issue for us.I now have 3 of these, including a metal version that works just as well as this plastic one, although I’m retiring the original one to my desk after 36 faithful years of service.

I’ve had several 7x linen testers like this — from Edmund Scientific in the past. I eventually lose them, but I love ‘um. My last two have been this version from Amazon. The second was because I lost the first. I’ve been using them for 40 years. I always have one with me.Today, I have cataract implants in both eyes thus making it impossible to see up close. These things make it easy. They automatically set the right distance between lens and object. Greater than 7x is too much magnification for my use. My first one from Amazon was this 11x —

Carson® LED Lighed LinenTest 11.5x Focusing Loupe (LT-10)

     — because I didn’t see the 7x. I don’t use the 11x after I got this 7x.

I ordered the linen test mangifier, the product was not available in canada. I ordered it from US store, came on time. The glass is clear and easy to count the threads. defentely recommend

  7. trennerneedleworks

OMG! This makes counting fabric threads so much easier – where has it been my whole life! Seriously, if you have ever tried to count threads with a ruler and a needle you know how difficult that can be, especially as our eyes get older! Every stitcher should have this in their tool kit.

  8. Amazon Customer

Used this for my textiles class in school and it was everything I could ever want in a folding magnifying glass. I was pretty rough in transporting it in my pocket and bike bag and it stayed in great shape. I would highly recommend this linen tester.

  9. Andrew Broekhuijsen

I already had a fairly high end focusing loupe for this task, but heard about people using these and wanted to try it since I’m trying to shave weight off my large format kit.It works about 99% as well as my nice loupe for the task of getting critical focus on the ground glass. Folds up nice and flat and weighs practically nothing. I’m going to drill a hole in part of it and hang it on a lanyard around my neck while I’m shooting.

    Very useful!
